Drug overdose death rates are climbing. Carl Erik Fisher, M.D. will provide vital insights into addiction and substance abuse. He believes compassion, non-judgmental encouragement and empathy are key factors in helping adolescents move beyond drug or alcohol use. He will examine treatments and strategies that have promise and will share his personal struggle with dependency.

Author of “The Urge: Our History of Addiction,” Fisher is an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia University, where he works in the division of law, ethics, and psychiatry. His private practice focuses on innovative and integrated approaches to addiction treatment.
